You’re doing all the “right” things—reading the self-help books, trying the strategies—but nothing seems to stick. You feel stuck, cluttered, and maybe a little exhausted.
Here’s the truth: Your nervous system is not the enemy.
It’s actually trying to help you. When you’ve been through hard things, your Guard Dog Brain (that protective part of you) stays on high alert. It keeps you in survival mode. And you can’t heal or grow when your body thinks it’s fighting a tiger.
In my latest podcast episode, I chatted with Anni Eza, a healer and teacher who created the Seeds of Bliss movement. Anni’s work is all about “Awakening the Seeds”—taking the pain and challenges we’ve faced and composting them into wisdom.
But here is the key takeaway from our chat: Healing requires safety first.
Anni explains that we need non-judgmental spaces to let our nervous systems settle. When we slow down and stop judging our “stuck feelings” (I call this the gunk), we signal to our brain that it’s okay to switch off the alarm.
You don’t need to go to a retreat to start this process. Anni suggests simple techniques to reset your system, like intentional breathing or simply slowing your physical movements down for a few minutes.
Think of it as “Brain Flossing”—clearing out the emotional clutter so you have room to just be.
This doesn’t need to be perfect to work. You just need to take one small step.
You’ve got this.
Warmly,
Erin
